Engine revving from 1.5k to 4k after cleaning intake/egr

Alright, so I followed this thread--

To clean out the intake manifold/egr port. It all went fine taking everything apart. It took a little longer than expected, but didn't really have any issues, except getting the throttle cables off...had to fiddle with those for a bit. Oh yeah, and like an idiot when I took off the coolant tube from the IACV I might've spilled A LOT of coolant. Mostly because I wanted to see how much coolant I lost, took off the radiator cap and proceeded to lose quite a bit of coolant. Sweeeeeeeeeeet. Pretty smooth huh?

Anyway, get everything apart, clean the egr ports and get out all the carbon buildup, and put it all back together. I'm excited to start the car and see how she runs (I was getting P0401 and P1457 for the CEL).

I start the car and it starts to rev up to 4k RPM, goes back down to 1.5k, then goes right up to 4K RPM and will continue to do this. I thought maybe I flooded the engine messing around with the throttle cable or something...

I've let the car run for a min or so and nothing changes, the engine keeps revving up to exactly 4k and back down to 1.5k. I'm not getting any CEL and nothing is pending either...probably because I haven't let the car run long enough.

Help???

you have a vaccume leak. check all vaccuum hoses, gaskets, etc.

Alright, will do! It's so strange how it goes to exactly 4k then back down to 1.5k. Hopefully it is something as simple as a hose not connected or something. I may have a few drinks in me right now, so messing under the hood of my car probably isn't the best idea.

there are a couple vacuum hoses that attach to the top of the throttle body. my guess is that you forgot one of those

and drinking + wrenching = win every time. as long as there's no test drives involved haha

Haha, last time I was drinking + working on my car (installing a car stereo system around midnight, this was in the late 90's) I hooked the pos to the neg and the neg to the pos on an amplifier. It was dark, I was drunk, and obviously the amp fried.

I think I'll wait till morning to work on the dirty whore

Well, i'm sober and looking at everything and everything looks like it's connected. No loose hoses or anything that I can see. I pretty much don't have any radiator fluid left, but don't think that could be causing my car to do this...

I'll take off the intake manifold again to see if something else might've gotten disconnected.

Alright, so I think I figured out the problem. There is a small L shaped bracket on the back of the intake manifold. It's just holding a hose...I might've (meaning did) install that sandwiched between the upper and lower portion of the manifold when I put it all back together. Hopefully that's what was causing the issue.

did u use new gaskets?
can u hear any air seeping through any lines when ur car is running?
when u were messing with the throttle cable, u didnt accidently tighten the cables right?

Would also pay to burp / bleed the cooling system, as when you removed the coolant hose off the IACV, you replaced the lost coolant with the equivalent in Air!!

that's a lot of air!!! LOL...well, I couldn't really hear any air sounds while the car was revving up and down...I didn't replace the gasket on the intake manifold as it looked just fine.

Sooo...Well, I have a friend coming over to help me refill my coolant if the car stops revving up and down like it is (still the process of putting everything back together. Man, i lost A LOT of coolant. If you're saying the system replaced that with air...well, that's a lot of air.

How would you burp the system? Let the car run with the radiator cap off?
