Hey everyone

I'm Dan... heard about this site from Honda-tech and I am pumped to talk accord with everyone else here. I drive an 00 v6 lx coupe

But I have a dilemma:

I am at school and my father let me know my car is having a fluctuating idle and is going from 3k back to 1200 and basically playing ping pong with the needle. When he gives it gas, it seems to settle a bit. Just recently though he said he did the same thing and was getting ready to take it into the dealer and the check engine light came on. it is going to the dealer this weekend. He thinks it is a sensor that is going wild or something, but I disagree. I have a bad feeling about it. If I had to guess the car has 85k miles on it and it has been serviced and oil changed and treated really well.

I couldn't find anything specific enough in a search on both sites, so I was curious if anyone has had this issue with the 00 v6 and what the end result was, and if it will cost me more than I can afford for some type of new part.

Thanks

+1 IACV and TB cleaning will likely solve the problem. When it's jumping from that high an RPM it's most likely the IACV. Might be a good idea to get a new gasket for it if you are going to clean it.

If your cleaning the IACV, don't just spray into the TB and think that is considered cleaning it. My mechanic did that and it actually underidled at times. It's a pain to take it apart but after I did it, my car runs so smooth as though it were brand new and was definitely worth the hassle.

I figured it needed cleaning. My dad is not by far the car guy in the family. Thanks for the info guys. I will be sure to help everyone out when I can also. I will let you all know after it gets back from the shop just to make sure its not something else.

get some throttle body cleaning jet spray, a nice microfiber rag and clean anything you consider dirty inside, and take out IACV and clean that sucker nicely, pick up a IACV gasket from honda or some parts store before you start this and your set.
