Hopefully in right thread, sorry if not..

I was driving the other day, when one of my belts ripped/frayed, I had no idea what happened until I was able to pull over. Upon inspection, I noticed that part of the belt ripped and was flapping all over the place. This caused a pretty big hole in the hood insulation.

I replaced the belt, but I am wondering is it ok if there is a hole in that insulation, will the heat from the engine cause anything to the paint that's on the hood in that one area? I saw to get a new one it's pretty expensive (Where I looked at least), so is it ok to leave a hole? Should I get a new one? What's your guy's advice on this?

Thanks!

Hood insulation is just used as a sound deadner and also acts as a fire extinguisher of sorts. If your engine catches on fire, the plastic clips are supposed to melt, and it falls down to help fight the fire. You can ditch it if you want.

Some people run without it, it's not absolutely imperative that it be there. If you ever find one for a decent price though, I'd replace it.
