I have a 2002 Honda Accord SE 4 cyl. with 152XXX miles on it. A couple of months ago, my check engine light came on with the codes P0700 & P0740. The car started to jerk and shift more abruptly than before so I took it to get looked at. A local shop said I needed to get my transmission rebuilt for $1800. I ended up just changing the ATF and it started to shift better, but occasionally will jerk when shifting. I took it to the dealership and they said I need to replace my transmission and it would be $3K plus.

So what do you guys think I should do? Fix the car or buy a new one?

KBB has it listed for private party in fair condition for approximately $3K. My car is in great shape besides for the transmission. How much do you guys think I should sell my car for if I do decide to sell it?

i am also suffering from your exact issue, P0700. and after much discussion on here, im going to end up keeping mine and fixing it . and i think you should too, 152k miles is nothing, you could probly go another 150k after a rebuild with no problem, and probly like 175k-200k on a 5MT swap if you dont drive like a race car dirver lol.

the dealer should be out of the question, there always way to expensive. 1800 bucks is also on the high side for a 4cyl rebuild. you could probly get a 5MT swap for that pirce.
a rebuild on a 4cyl is like 1400 bucks, at least here in socal. so shop around some more cuz 1800 would be a decent price on a 6cyl rebuild, but not a 4.

transmission costs 1.8k to rebuild? Im a noob but can't you just buy a nother transmission or something? or buy a car, get the tranny from that and use the extra car for parts?

Edit: There's car here in toronto that sells 6gas for around 1-2k

Thanks for the advice. Financially, it would be smarter to fix it but I have heard after fixing it, the transmission might go out after only 15k more miles. Also, fixing a car for almost the value of the car itself makes me wonder if its the right choice.

Orly? So 3100 - 1800 = $1300. That is if I get a rebuilt transmission. I know there are cheaper options to fixing it and some people can probably do it under $1000 if they buy from ebay.

Yeah I could but most of the accords down here are like 3-4k and up with a lot of miles. Ill look into it though.
