IAC help

my honda kept idling between 1k and 2k rpm. i took it to the honda dealer and they replaced the iac valve. i have an aem v2 cold air intake and they said that it might be causing the part to go bad, but i don't believe them. who is right?

lol y would the intake do that? maybe try resetting ur ecu so it can adjust to the intake?

An intake wouldn't cause that. The IACV usually fails because it's clogged with carbon build up and can't function like it should, even though the valve is turning.

Most of the time you can just remove the upper intake manifold and clean it all out and clean the IACV and it will stop the "surging" idle and not even have to replace the valve.

I don't agree with what was said in that thread. The coolant temp sensor (not sending unit) tells the ECU what temp the engine is at and slowly brings it down off of high idle. The high idle and regular idle are controlled by the IACV rotating to allow more or less air in when the throttle plate is closed. I would still clean the IM and IACV and would be surprised if it didn't cure the problem.

it might be surprising but some of those new honda "techs" don't really know that much. They follow a service manual. In fact some dealers that are cheap, they would rather pay a new tech less money than have a bunch of seasoned vets.....
