Idle holds @ 1500 RPM and RPM's surge between 1100-1500

no overheating...but best thing that could have happened occurred today....reallllly high idle like usual for about 10 minutes of driving, the I was like ah what the hell, **** it...so I pushed it a little on a straight away and my rpm's dropped to a little lower than normal levels and my check engine light came on :) its no longer a mystery...gunna check for codes when I go home for the weekend
