vtec "kicking in" isn't exactly a big thing or a thing at that matter haha. Honestly, most of the time, I have never really even taken notice of hitting vtec in my car. "Vtec" is just another one of those things that basically every car has a form of now

I always thought that extra pull towards the end of your power band was your engine reaching its peak power rpm. Never thought it was actually vtec

vtec, driving normally, comes on at like, 2500 rpm or something . i only notice it when im going really slow in 2nd and go WOT. like, 10 mph slow
