Automatic transmission, EX (if it matters). 1998.

So I'm trying to put the car in gear and somehow I end up in neutral, even though I thought I was in D4. I look down and I have accidentally put the shift lever between N and D4 (don't ask how). This causes NO light to be lit up on the dash for the selected gear. I think "oh, well I'm in N" so I shift one down into D4.

As the shift lever hits D4 I hear this loud "WHAM!" from the transmission as I feel a physical hit and the car lurches forward violently...

What have I done? Everything seems okay... how is this possible?

oh damn... I knew what neutral bombing was but I didn't think that I could have done it, cause the engine was idling... but I'm certainly being careful now!!
