Well.....the search for a new car to replace my 2004 TL has finally come to an end after a few trips to NY and NJ looking for a suitable blank canvas. There were a couple e46M's I wanted to buy, but because I needed to finance $8000-$9000 I was fighting an uphill battle with finance companies because they didn't want to write a loan for a 2002 or 2003. Then I moved on to e92 335's and found a couple pretty nice ones in the $22k - $24k range, but the payments were going to borderline the maximum that I wanted to spend per month. In addition, I found they had a rather numb feeling while driving. It didn't feel like a BMW. It felt more like driving a hybrid Camry or something.
I continued searching and searching and stubled across a two owner 1998 5MT Cosmos Black/Dove e36 M3 Cabrio with 72k/miles on it in Raleigh, NC. I talked to the owner, told him I was coming from Hartford, CT and that I wanted full disclosure that the car was exactly as described, and that there was going to be nothing that would prevent me from getting it back to CT. He assured me there wasn't, all of the maintenance was up to date, is had every service record and it ran like a top. I took his word and PayPal'd him a $200 deposit. A couple days later I got up at 3:45am, the GF drove me to Bradly International for 4:30am so I could get the 5:30am flight to Raleigh. Got into Raleigh at 1:00pm because of some weather delays, the seller picked me up, went to the bank to get him his money, then went to the DMV to get a temp tag and do the title work, dropped him off at home and hit the highway around 5:00pm and got home at 3:00am like a BAWS.
So after all of the trials and tribulations I went through during my car search, I came out with a PRISTINE example of an e36M that is paid for in full. The car has EVERYTHING it came with from the dealer. All of the tools are in the tool kit, the rechargeable flashlight is in the glovebox. The jack, tire tools and full sized spare (M Contour with a new Conti Extreme Contact tire) are all there as well. I couldn't be happier with the car. Here she is.......BUT FIRST.....the service records....
It has every single document that came with the car from the manuals and all the way down to the original window sticker and the business card of the sales person that sold it to the first owner, reciepts for tire purchases, dealer services, oil changes and a mileage log the first owner kept (ever time he drove it he wrote down where he drove, the mileage and if he got gas, from where and how much.......
He kept all his gas receipts too......
