I'm on Koni yellows and Eibach pro kit springs on a 98 v6 Accord. They were installed before I bought this car from a friend. I've had this problem for as long as I've owned it.

If I go over any bumps, or if I steer left and right very hard and abruptly, it'll make a clunking noise in the rear. It seems to affect both the left and right side. It's hard to describe the sound.. it's as if it sounds like a deep and muffled banging sound.

I've tried the following so far:

* Removed everything from the trunk, including the full-size spare tire I have
* Squeezed large pieces of plastic between the dead coils in one of the springs
* Grabbed hold of the sway bar in different areas, pulling and pushing it as hard as I could. The end links and bushing look good when I look at them
* Wrapped the tips of the mufflers with towels to make sure it wasn't hitting against the body kit
* Tried to jump up and down on the door sills, couldn't reproduce the sound
* I've grabbed each wheel and there is no play

When I look at the coils in the spring, it looks like two of the coils are stuck together. I can't seem to separate them at all either. Is this normal on Eibach springs? I'm not sure if this is causing the noise. I wasn't able to stuff anything between these two coils.

I'm at a loss here and REALLY want the noise to go away. I've been able to ignore it for almost a year now but I'd really like to get rid of it because it's embarassing driving people around in my car.

Any ideas? Help!

I got this problem too, but I'm on coilovers. I don't really know why it makes that noise, it sounds like a bumping noise right? yeah sounds are hard to describe in words haha

I have the same exact sound, i have replaced my springs and shocks and brake rotors and pads and the sound is still there in the drivers side only. I finally realized my top of the strut bushing was worn out completely and that was causing the loud clunk noise when randomly going over bumps. I pulled my whole setup apart and found i am missing the dust cover and rubber boot etc, so i ordered a whole set for the front left side(only 30 bucks). My parts come in on firday and I should be finished by friday night. If the sound is gone then i will know what was causing it but honestly this is the only thing left that can be changed out easily so im hoping this is it. I will also take pics to show what i am talking about.

Good News, the noise is fixed. I replaced all the circled parts in the picture cost me about 20 bucks, and now the sound is completely gone. The number 6 bushings were worn out and flat and number 2 was missing and number 11 was cut in half, all before i replaced them. I dont know what was making the sound because the right side is in similar shape but i dont hear any noise from it as of yet. I hope this helps :). After having the parts it took about 30 minutes to replace all of it with a spring compressing tool.

i had the same problem with my tein ss-p. i think it was the spring moving around and hitting the top mount. but mines would only make noise when driving under 40 and on small continuous bumps. on the highway...absolutely no noise. i have no idea.

I just reinstalled my H&R sports + koni yellows on the lowest perch, and i'm getting this annoying clunk again. it only happens when i go quickly over humps, usually during compression, which leads me to think:

a) strut is bottoming out (but only 2 inches, so probs not)
b) coils on spring are clapping (hence will try spring wrap)
c) swaybar endlinks are hitting the shock body (common problem on omni coilovers)
d) spring perch is loose (shouldnt be the case as the whole unit is compressed)
e) strut top mounts are not tight enough (tightened to hell and beyond)
f) swaybar endlinks are loose and swaybar is wiggling around on the bolt thread.

God help me find out what it is... grrr

I would say its most likely B, but check that the endlinks aren't loose when you're working on it
