I just keep mine on the dash.. til I tint the front.

a) they are damaged by UV light and become faded (like headlights)
b) dirt and **** get in between the cover and the plate
c) people paint them with that flash diffracting spray to (try to) avoid red light tickets
d) they cover the reg stickers
