Messed Headlight...

Hey guys,

I had a post about this a long time ago...but theres new information and I'd just like some help please =(

So my car's been having a weird problem where after the ignition is out, the left headlight (low beam) remains on, and the right high-beam (daylight running light) stays on...

Many of you guys suggested it was the relay...and then the problem solved itself so I didn't worry about it.

Today, it started acting up again, and this time I actually have to take out the 'Lighting Relay 1' from the fusebox in the engine to have it turn off...

So, my question is, while it's most likely the relay, is there a possibility that it's something else? DRL relay? I just don't want to spend 35$ on a non-refundable relay and not have it fix anything...

and since I'm in Canada, ordering online isn't going to be much cheaper due to shipping, etc...

Any help/confirmation would be greatly appreciated =)

Why are you spending $35 on a relay? Bring it with you to the auto store and pick another one up that's the same.

the relay would be the problem though?

i just only found out what a relay actually is...so any help is appreciated lol

I'd bet money on Relay 1. Next time it the lights are stuck on, turn the headlight switch off, then tap the relay. If the light turns off, bingo. Relays are mechanical, they can stick as they get older and corrode inside.

Here's the odd part. Relay 2 controls the left lowbeam and Relay 1 controls the right. Both relays send power to the DRL module to tell it the low beams are on (do they normally turn off when the low beams are on or are they on all the time?)

I've narrowed it down to relay 1 and 2, the DRL module, or the wiring. I'd replace 1 and 2 first.

DRL's turn off when the low beams are on...heh so I guess the DRL relay is fine.

So it sounds like a plan. I'll replace the relay(s), and see what happens..
