Installing an external coil

This first paragraphs a tech part but I didn't want to post in two different forums about the same matter.

I'm getting an MSD dist cap but I was told by the seller that in order to put that on I need an external coil since accord's coils are internal. Two things. 1, is this true? 2, what does this external coil do? Since accords have internal coils, if I get the MSD external coil will it be a problem having 2 coils? Does this improve the car's performance in any way? I'm also getting NGK plugs and wires set as well.

Now the DIY part of this thread. How would I install both of these? The cap seems easy, just taking off the old one and putting the new one on, but what about the external coil? It's decently sized and where does it go, what does it connect to, etc. If anyone has an article on the installation of these two please direct me.

ok heres the thing.
1. our cars do have internal coils
2. when you get the MSD cap and get it installed the internal coil is removed so you wont use 2 coils
3. it will def impove the cars performance. i have the whole MSD set up in my car and you will def feel the difference
4. there are different kinds of MSD coils. There is a Blaster coil 2 which is like a cylinder and there is a Blaster coil SS. I used the SS because it was a lot smaller and easier to find a place in the engine bay.

I didnt install my MSD because i didnt want to mess anything up while installing it so i got it done professionally. Imo i would do the same just incase it is installed wrong you dont have to pay for the damages. If you have any more questions just let me know.

It makes a more powerful and more consistent spark instead of our stock coil and plugs. In my Outback I have coil packs on each plug so it would cost a lot for me to improve the spark like this.

In my sig is my engine specs. I used the search function and found some things for MSD ignition but not any that in my opinion answered my questions.

I'm planning on getting this MSD Ignition Box:

I am also getting an MSD distributor cap, an MSD Blaster SS external coil, and an NGK iridium spark plugs and wires set.

First off, one shop guy told me that the MSD 6A (above) will not fit in my Accord, only an Excel brand or something which was like $400. I think he was lying. So that's my first question, if it will work on my accord.

Also, he said the only difference between the 6A and the 6AL ignition boxes is that the 6AL comes with a rev limiter. Now I have an AT so I don't need the rev limiter I'm assuming, so the 6A is fine for me right?

Another thing, I'm only getting the MSD distributor cap, not a whole distributor. Is changing the distributor cap from oem to MSD a decent upgrade? Or do I have to change the whole thing?

Last, I'm getting an MSD Blaster SS external coil. This is also known as the ignition coil right? So my internal one will be removed as another 6th gen member told me.

So with these upgrades that are bolded above, will I feel a noticeable difference in power in my car? I'd be spending about $280 on the whole thing. What if I don't get the ignition box, which then I'll only be paying $100 for. How will that be in terms of spark and power?

Honda stock ignition system is already very efficient for minor mods like bolt-ons... unless if u do an engine build or boost, u do not need to upgrade the ignition system... only thing u could prob get is the NGK blues spark plug wires.... save ur money for something else like a drop or nitrous

Seriously? I just wanted some more noticable power in my car past the I/H/E. I already got the NGK plugs and wires and was just thinking that since I'm doing something about the spark I might as well go all out and get MSD Ignition and everything. Is it really not worth it? The reason I'm not going to build or boost this car is because it's an auto and I'm planning on buying either another accord or something else in stickshift, and boosting that car.

Because the MSD ignition is a lot of money, and if it won't make a noticable difference in speed in addition to the I/H/E, then I'd rather spend the money on an HID kit instead lol...or $$ college books $$
