Well I've been busy. New front axle /coils/steering is done.
\
Rear is mostly mocked up and waiting on me to get out the welder and start finish welding.

Here's a picture of my new steering/trackbar.

5/8" chromoly rod ends with grade 8 hardware all the way round, 1 1/2" DOM tubing makes up the draglink and tie-rod, .5" wall with threaded adapters welded in.

You can see my shiny new-to-me upper control arms in there as well.

Why is this my first time seeing this? Comanches are ****ing badass, and you can't go wrong with that 4L I6.

You are blind?

I agree the MJ platfrom is a good time, it's way stouter than a Cherokee. I do love my 4.0, it's been overheated to the point of WAAYYY past 260 on the guage and it keeps on running. I think I've finally toasted the rings though, as it has a fair amount of blowby. It still makes great oil pressure, even with 276+K miles (I tore the speedo cable off long ago, use a GPS for speed on the road). I think I might just pop the head, take a gander at the cylinder walls and put new rings in it.

so, more work this weekend. Got my new rear axle hung under the frame, just need to mock up ride height, set the shackle angle and burn the mounts to the frame.

after that it's a harmonic balancer, a brake line I tore up on the front end, and making a new rear driveshaft and it's ready to wheel.

I have pictures, but my phones being stupid and won't mass storage to my PC.

Love what you have done with your Camanche! Your aggressive height and knobby tires really make it tough! If you are big into offroading/ rock climbing, I would definitely reccommend checking out the Cove Campground in Gore,VA. They hold Jeep Jamboree/Big dog events every yr and there are trails from stock use to extremely modified. The website isn't much but there is always a good turn out every year.

I know of the BigDogs meet, but it's just a ways away for me. I wheeled Tellico pretty extensively until the tree huggers got it closed down (only to be logged). Now my new favorite spot is Harlan, which is where the video in the first post came from. It's ridiculous, and it's only 6 hours away from me.

Here's a pic from last year's chapter event, Winterfest.

2010_0306Winterfest2010-Sat0111.jpg

Every year we're all dumb enough to go camping in the cold and go wheeling. I leave in 8 days for this years, so you an see why the crunch is on to finish my driveline and suspension swap.
We had magazine coverage last year in 4 Wheeler magazine.
