Well on this humid, muggy evening in Bowling Green, KY, I finally got started on the building of my h22, finally! After waiting on parts and botching the order of my 55mm ACL race main bearing, I finally got some OEM 50mm replacements.

So tonight, I got started on putting the bottom end back together. Cleaned the motor inside and out and was ready to get started. Using Permatex assembly lube, I lathered it on the crank valley and pressed the main bearings into there positions. I then applied the assembly lube to the bottom half of the bearing on the top side of them where the crank would sit. Did the same on the main caps.

Using a plastigage, I tore small pieces and placed them on the crank and bolted down the main caps. After torquing the main cap bolts, first to 20lbs then to the spec 54lbs using an inside out pattern, I then removed them to make sure my gaps were right. The recommended spec is between .02 and .047. I was all over it. After making sure my gaps were correct, I placed the main caps back on and torqued everything back together. All smooth so far.

Until...

I realized I didn't put my oil squirter back into the block. F**K!!! Even worse is that I have to have a new one because 3 or the 4 tips have been broken off.

So, that is where I'm at for now. Going to price a squirter tomorrow and hope its not that expensive. Anyone have a rough guess as how much they are? Sorry for the lack of pictures. I'll post them up in the coming days.

If anyone has any tips, please feel free to post them up!

did you put assembly lube on the back of the bearings? it kinda sounds like you did which isn't right. you want a clean dry surface under the bearing and assembly lube on the top where it comes in contact with the crank. By putting the oil on the backside your settin yourself up to spin a bearing. happened to a guy in my class who was building a K series.

I did in fact to that. Since I will have to pull everything back apart, it will be cleaned off! Thanks for the input!
