Need Lens Help

Going to the Rangers Game on Friday, going to be about 200 ft from the mound, most of the pictures will be taken of players between 45 and 175 ft away from me. Going to go to the store and rent a lens but I'm not sure what would be best. It will be a night game and I won't have the ability to bring a pod with me. I don't mind having a heavy lens so long as I can hold it myself and still get good shots.

The IS version, yea, but at long focal lengths, you still want some sort of stabilization whether it is via a tripod/monopod or IS. Or leaning on someone/thing lol

Any of the long range ones above will work. But all of them will be pretty difficult when hand-held since they are so large and bulky. 70-200 rocks since it provides more versatility but they are quite the beast to handle.
I would think the 300 or 400 would work best but they would have no versatility and would still be very bulky and heavy.

Are you wanting to get the players to fill the frame? I don't even know if the 70-200 would have enough zoom for an event like baseball.

If you ate shooting sports don't rent the 70-200mm f2.8 with IS, it's slow at focusing; get the non IS version, it's much faster. I believe at sports event unless you are a official photographer, the longest focal length they will let you bring in is 135mm.

Some events do limit the focal length that you can bring unless you are a official photographer with a event pass.

ive heard about places not allowing lenses over like 7" in length ["thats what she said" joke goes here].

then people sneak in with a 1970s manual focus 200mm lens since they're like 6" long

i'm not looking to get the players to fill the frame, i'm just trying to see what you guys recommend. I have a nifty fifty and I was able to get some nice shots with that after only moving up 8 rows to the barrier between the field and stands
