Alright got my 98 H23a engine, trans & ECU today and I've searched for a timing kit w/ water pump for this engine but all anybody says in posts are that 98-01 h22a4 parts will work (155 tooth belt) and other people say 96 prelude si h23 (127 tooth belt) will work ??????? Who's right #confused lol

I also found another person who said the H23a vtec shares the same belt as the f20b (156 tooth belt-not available in the states about $80+shipping) I guess I'll pull the timing cover off and look for stock # if still readable on belt.

All right pulled the timing apart today and found out that it had a Timing set in it from a 98 prelude 2.2dohc vtec in it and all the timing marks were perfectly aligned and still had the auto tensioner in it.
The timing belt number was 14400-p13-004 (155 teeth)
I've found out that the most h23a vtec motors are supposed to use a 14400-pcb-004 (156 teeth) belt. Going to replace everything from a fifth gen prelude and replace the auto tensioner. Not going to do a manual adjustment tensioner swap because this is a automatic and not going rev that high.

I believe the h23 motor comes with a manual tensioner which is better. the auto tensioners break often when you try to replace them

H23a Vtec uses a the same hydraulic tensioner as the h22a4 in the prelude.
I found out that indeed you use all the timing stuff off the 98 prelude 2.2 vtec (155 tooth timing belt) and all the timing marks line up perfectly!
