Hey guys, as you can see in my other thread I am getting rid of my 6th gen (many good years), its just time for something new.

So as the thread stated, I am in sort of a dilemma and need some help deciding what to do.

if you had a choice, pick one:

1. BRAND NEW econocar (honda, toytoa etc ) v6, low mileage, easy to maintain, standard equipment ~$22-$26k

2. OLDER luxury car (2007 328i for example) v6, fully loaded power everything with navi (maybe not xenons, bluetooth etc), almost 50k miles, certified preowned- 6 years, 100k mile warranty. costs more to maintain, premium gas, expensive parts ~$22-$26k

I would love a luxury car, but it will ofcourse cost more to maintain. The economy car will hold up longer, but wont be nearly as fun as say a bmw or something. What would you guys choose in this situation. thanks :)

A good place to start would be to think about what you liked about your Accord, but what it lacked that you wish it had...that which is driving you to get a new car. Quick note, you say BRAND NEW car, but then you say low miles..so I am guessing that means new model (08 or 09?), but used in that it's certified pre-owned or similar. Am I right?

This brings my next question...what does OLDER mean to you? You mention a 2007 3 series...how far back are you think you would go if you are buying used? 2007, 2006, etc.

Not all late model cars will necessarily be more fun to drive than a newer car. Obviously tech advancements have changed over time so some newer cars will have features you won't find in older cars. But again, that depends on what you mean by "old", because an '07 3-Series will be more fun and have different features than a new Camry/Accord. There's a lot to be said for older luxury cars such as exclusivity, design, and nostalgia factor...but if you are looking for a daily driver you must be especially careful about which one you go with, because of cost of ownership and any possible reliability issues. But on the flip side of that, buying a late model car for around $18-$22k or so leaves some money to have left for costs, if you have budgeted a max of $26k.

In black and white, the two types you are comparing....'07 3-Series or '07 A4 maybe, and a new Camry or Accord are pretty different cars. Think about what you really want, and think about how much money you are willing to put into your new car over the next few years. I am guessing you do not plan on modding your next car...because it would cost a ton to do so with a BMW or similar lol.

So to cast my vote...I am a fan of late model cars. I personally am at an impasse with new cars because they are getting harder and harder to work on and there are more things that can go wrong. And in my opinion, good exterior design is lacking with many of them.

The question is how do you feel about driving that new car off the lot and losing 5-8 grand instanly?

Not too crazy about the supersized 8thGen Accord, so I'd get a late 7th. If you want a little luxury look for a V6/EX-L with navi. You should be able to get a good one for <$20K.

u want a real nice luxery car? get a lexus ls 400 or 430, they are probably the most reliable v8 on the planet. They never have electrical problems like german cars and they never have transmission issues like acura/honda.

A buddy in my class is always ranting about how his '07 325i is at the dealer at least once a month and he hates owning the thing...

He's bringing in the '02 MDX he bought to replace it tomorrow :lawl:

Nothing wrong with getting a used car, especially a certified and warrantied one. IF you like Honda reliability, why not grab some Honda luxury and pick up an Acura?
