Ok so car been siting about an hour idling with the AC on and the hood open.... No overheat...

Could it be that it's just a ****ing ridiculous amount of heat that gets trapped in the engine bay? FML

I see that youre FI. FI cars do produce more heat than NA, but I wouldn't think it would overheat with a proper cooling system. Earlier in the thread, it seemed like you were experiencing overheat while driving, but it was ok while idling...did I understand this correctly? It may have something to do while being under boost.

i agree with jmiller....i would also check the AC condenser....this same exact thing was happening to me about a week ago and it came out being the condenser Relay was shot....replaced it and havnt had an issue with it since....im not too sure if your cooling system is slightly diff on your motor but on our F's both fans would be on if the AC is on....

no it only overheats in the A/C is on, while driving or idle.. and its not instant. it takes a while for it to start to overheat.

if the A/C is off, it does not overheat while drivng or idle. my car actually runs cooler then it did when it was stock.

I have a Mishimoto double core aluminum radiator with 2 high rpm fans, a mugen thermostat and a mugen fanswitch which open the cooling system sooner then OEM. my car runs between a 1/4 and 1/2 on my temp gauge. OEM i used to run exactly at 1/2.

I think i have a proper cooling system for boost.

both fans turn on when the climate control is on heat or ac... the passenger fan is for the cooling system, the driver side is the climate

As of last night, i had it idling for about an hour with the hood open and the ac on full blast and it did not overheat.. which now makes me wonder about heat being trapped under the hood. but the thing that doesnt make sense to me is that it will even overheat while driving, and this was NEVER a problem before. if it was the unreal amount of heat, i think i would of experienced this the day after i installed the s/c.. I've had it over a year now (2nd summer)

what i am narrowing it down to (GReen has been checked/replaced)

-Fans not functioning properly <-they are
-Thermostat <- it is
-Radiator Cap <-replaced with new 1.3 cap
-Air in system <- bled 3 times
-Coolant flush <-recommended on other forums for similar problems
-Bad AC Condensor <-whatever jmiller/bkz suggest
-Bad AC Compressor <-sticking/seizing causing extra load
-excessive trapped heat <-make some kinda extra fan or 2 to get heat out of the engine bay

You're right, youre well setup for boost. It looks like you're on a good track. If it ends up being excessive heat, then heat wrap/shields may be helpful as well.

Good luck with it all. Your car is awesome and you seem to know what you're doing.

if you think its excess heat trapped under the hood you could always do that mod where you get longer bolts and some washers to replace the ones holding the hood to the hinges. I'm sure you've seen what I'm talking about. I read an article in super street when that fist started getting popular where they actually tested it out on a miata and found out it really does lower engine bay temps.

i would but that look is kinda ugly IMO

im about to wait til we get another aston marin that needs a hood at work, and mod in vents to my hood lol... only thing id be worried about that is getting water in the bay where it shouldnt be when it rains
