I personally just have this issue when I see someone with a better body and lens combo shooting the same things I'm shooting. For example, back at school, there was this one dude on the Quad with a 1Ds-mkII with the 70-200 f/2.8 IS. And guess what I had? My "cute" little XSi with my "cute" Nifty Fifty.

It's like stopping at a red light in your Accord and someone in a NSX pulls up right next to you.

I'm not exactly jealous - I just want their gear. NAO!!

EDIT: Oh, and to Raymond - Congrats on the pickup!

it was like at road america...i sat next to a dude with a 40D and 100-400L who was in full burst mode everytime the cars came around the corner (turn 5). i know ive said this before, but my single-shot, 260mm pics were just the same as his.

taking your analogy further ray...if you could beat that nsx, how good would that feel? you know...the underdog type of thing...do more with less (less gear, less money, less time, etc).

can you see it on the lens?

if so...breathe (warmly) onto the lens and wipe it carefully with a clean tshirt.

if you cant see the dust on the lens, and you cleaned it already...there are 2 more things possible, neither of which is good.

1. dust inside the lens
2. dust on the sensor

i cleaned my camera's sensor the other day, but i can take my lenses off. i have dust inside numerous lenses but unless it's close to the rear it doesn't affect the pics. you said your camera was old? time to look for a new one since repairing it would cost you more than its worth...cause this looks like sensor dust...
