Removing short shifter

I have a JTC short shifter installed in my car. Is the any way to remove it without breaking anything, and then put the stock one back on ? The part I'm unsure about is the retainer clip..does not that part need to be broken off?

Flip the shifter assembly over and take a flat head and hammer to each side it'll come out I did it a few times
