Seized Emergency Brake

Today I went to lunch with my girlfriend and parked on an incline. When I park on an incline I usually put my foot on the brake, put the shifter in park, pull the emergency brake, then take my foot off the brake to help keep the strain off my auto trans.
Well when we finished eating, I dropped the e brake, put it in drive, and when I took my foot off the brake, I went nowhere as if my e brake was still up. The lever inside the car moves all the way up and down, but from the completely down position to about half way up, you don't feel it engage like it should.
I tried to drive in the parking lot a little and it seemed fine, it ended up freeing up when I got home (less than a mile)
I'm assuming something got frozen or something, the temps did drop from low 50's high 40's yesterday, to snow and in the teens today.

Any insight as to what has happened and how I can fix it? It was already dark and super cold so I haven't even looked at it yet but I plan on checking the pads and greasing up those sliding pins tomorrow before I go to work.
Thanks.

Mine gets stuck all the time. on the back 2 calipers, if you look underneath from behind, you will see a lever with a spring that is connected to a cable. I have learned to keep a rachet with an extending handle in the car to pry the lever back..i also spray penetating oil on it and has started to work better.

Been busy so I haven't checked it out yet, just haven't used the hand brake.

I'll be sure to try that Rob thanks.
