Alright, I noticed a while back that the above stickied "Make Short Shifter" only linked to Cutting the short shifter, which isn't really anything to do, I decided to make a new list of what you need and what you'll see to put an actual "Short Shift Adapter" on for anyone interested in doing this, or atleast trying it. There really isn't much to it, but I thought some people may not be to into trying without seeing it first, so here goes:
First, I'm assuming you follow the sticky in order to figure out how to cut your actual shifter if that is what your going to do. A friend of mine cut mine the night before for me because I lacked the tools to do it nice and cleanly, but anyhow, that i where I'm starting.
When you first remove the center of your console, this is what you're going to see:
You can see where the linkage currently attaches to the shifter itself. The first thing you do from here, is remove the nut with a 10mm ratchet or wrench and remove the linkage from the bolt. The shifter will now sit freely.
Next, the adapter that I got (DC Sports) has a hole in it that will allow it to slide onto that bolt and around the shifter itself:
Next, attach the linkage to the obvious spot on the adapter. I found it easiset if I didn't have anything tightened up yet (even a little bit) even though the instructions said so, because the linkage wouldn't slide over a piece of original metal from where it used to attach and the DC Sports adapter, so I slid everything on relatively simultaneously, which seemed to work better than it sounds. Then, simply add your Locktite to the threads where the linkage attaches and the allen screw is:
Tighten up the 2 bolts, and the allen screw until the adapter doesn't slide at all. Here is what it should look like:
And replace your center console. It's hard to show what it looks like in pictures, but here are a few of mine put together. I love the shortened throws and the shorter shifter, but my wife hates it. I don't mind, she doesn't have to drive it!
