Solenoid ???'s

Hi 6th gen, i have a 99 accord sedan with roughly 188,xxx. My transmission just went out and i got a CEL and the shops say it could be a solenoid. My question is, could it be the shift lock or the linear or even both. Could this fix my transmission from not shifting into gear or hard shifting? Help is much appreciated if there is any out there. I dont want to bring it into a shop if it's only the solenoids when i could do it myself.

I hate trying to figure out what's wrong with transmissions. But from a quick look at the manual it shows 6 or so solenoids involved with the transmission. I guess you could take them out and power them to see if they work. But that's a lot of work in itself.

Might give a little more info to detail: how the trans was maintained, how it worked before it went out, and what were the signs of failure.
