Hi guys,

2002 Honda accord ex 2.3 auto

So I got this car last year and have put money into little annoying things. (O2 sensor, flex pipe on exhaust, oil pan, tires, etc.) Instead of selling this I am thinking about going ahead and putting money into as a performance type aspect. Right now I have to fix a rattling/squeaking that is coming from front and rear passenger wheel areas, I'm thinking ball joint. I'm at a little over 100k. Basically I'm just looking for ideas on performance enhancements. I don't want anything cosmetic or make it sound like a teenage kid. So far while I have the money this summer, I'm planning on timing belt, water pump, head gasket, new struts, maybe strut bar, header and exhaust.
I visited the accord store and I'm looking at a megan racing 4-2-1 header and silverline exhaust. I'm not planning to race, I'll be commuting a lot with it and want a little more fun and fuel economy as well as a reaction from the accelerator. I'm not looking to spend a heap of money, and will be doing the work myself, so what do you think? Am I missing something? Any advice?

I appreciate all help and direction.

You can look at either and H22 swap or a G23 build.

Definately recommend a 5spd swap as well.

where
first, 5 speed swap. then, turbo build since your looking to "spend a heap of cash" unless that was a typo

Don't waste your money. If it's a commuter car just maintain it and drive it. In order to achieve noticeable "fun" performance our of an F23 auto you're going to have to spend more than one boatload of cash.

.Welcome to 6GA

I won't lie, there is little aftermarket support for our cars, but thats doesn't mean you cant have fun with it

ball joints are not a major performance part, so oem should be a fine as is

timing belt should also be oem, just for quality assurance.

Struts, do tou wanna go lower at all or just a better replacment?

strut bars are pretty cheap and generally the same.

header and exhaust are where you should have some money spent for quality. megan is a good cheap brand, or you can go higher in price for a better name brand. exhaust can be either a welded on muffler or a complete bolt on. research on both can help you decide better

these cars don't require alot of money to be fun

have fun with the car and enjoy wrenching on it

Yes I have definitely noticed there is very little in aftermarket for my little accord. I'm starting to see that it probably won't take a lot of money to do a few things to it to get a little extra gas mileage and power. I just don't want it to sound all riced out when it comes to the exhaust or even obnoxiously loud. As for lowering I'm not real big on that right now but if I did a drop would be very little so probably stick with a regular set for an improved ride. I don't want it scraping as it has a tendency to do here and there on certain driveways.
