Nice DIY

Is Great Stuff really necessary? I've heard some bad things about it.

Can't we just apply some spray, or a deadening mat and call it a day?

Some people have claimed that expanding foam products have popped out body lines / panels on their car. You'd have to use a whole lot to create those kind of forces. What you gain with using the foam instead of just deadener or deadener spray right away, is the foam will get into places you can't with just deadener and help prevent more rattles.

All I did was adjust the rubber stoppers in the trunk lid. They are like corkscrews, you just back the rubber stoppers out until the truck gets tight when closed. This is the easiest, fastest, and quickest way to fix the problem. The only thing that rattles now is the license plate frame, but barely.

Yeah the pillows would work but when you need to put other things in your trunk your up a creek because then you gotta use your back seat and your trunk would be rattling again... haha

The thing that really helped me get rid of rattles was moving the trunk latch down. You basically move it down and close the trunk, if it's too low, it just won't catch. Then move it up till it catches. 10 min of work, did the job.

or you could just unscrew those rubber stoppers in your trunk until it gets tight when it closes like I said earlier.

Yeah, either way works. One nice side effect of the way i did is your trunk doesn't pop all the way open. Accouple of times i've accidently popped my trunk, instead of being open where everyone can see, nobody would notice. But yeah, your way is easier, they both do the same thing though.
