how many miles are on your auto tranny? you might want to look into a 5speed swap for boost, i'd worry about your tranny more than your motor

yeah auto trannies (unless performance) really arent made to handle a lot of torque, if u turbo it u will probably end up burning off all the clutch material on the bands and then start digging into the drums, i would also expect alot of slippage in the band/servo assemblies (thats were the problem come in with burning the clutch material off)

honestly i wouldnt do anything performance to the car until you did a 5 or 6 spd swap just to get it out of the way, and yes they are much more fun to drive than an auto (i hate auto tannies lol)

I did a lot of searching about this when I had my accord too. To be honest, I wouldn't trust the auto tranny to hold even the slightest amount of boost. And if your going to do a full 5-speed swap with turbo build, you are better off just going for a full out H22 conversion. Unless you do the 5-speed swap with an eBay turbo kit, in which case I hope you have another car to drive around.

mine has 200,000 on it now. I turbo'd it at 190k and it lasted me until I blew the headgasket at 199k. I sourced a new F23 with 130k for like 350 and put ARP headstuds in it. You have a lot of work ahead of you if you are still auto though. Neither of your possible projects are small. I would stick with a manual swap for awhile if you really love the car. Otherwise, find something that's already stick and maybe turbo that. GL

I wouldn't put the shorter geared H series trans in with boost. you want longer gears with a boosted car. stick with the F

I hope your budget is at least 3 - 4 grand. Keep in mind the F23 rods are weak. The AT is notoriously bad too even on a stock motor. The Engine has high miles and so does the rest of the car. I'm not trying to discourage you. I spent a lot of money to get my car where it is and its only 50% where I want it to be. Turbo's add a lot of stress. I would start by either building another block or compiling all the parts to rebuild & strengthen the motor. Studs, head gasket, Rods, bearings, rings. Good Luck.

Hey guys i have a 98 lx that has approximatly 204,000 miles on it. Im thinking of turboing it even though it has the high miles. Im not saying making it high performance or anything. Im just thinking to make it only about 5-6 psi. Something i can feel but wont wreck my motor lol. So do you guys have any ideas? Should i even do it at all? It has the f22 sohc vtec in it. Thanks alot !

Did you mean to say it has an f23? f22s are from previous gen Accords. And I'd be against turboing an engine with that many miles. But as everybody else is saying, if you take the correct safety precautions, you might be fine for a while

Don't forget to chg the timing and balancer belt if it hasn't been done already. Valve adjustment should also be done. Make sure all your other maintenance is up to date.
