quick search shows Pauter may have forged connecting rods for the J30A1 @ about $1200
Found no pistons on Pauter, Crower, Wiseco, or JE pistons sites; however, you can send them 1 piston and they can make a set of forged pistons...probably for around $800 to $1000 for the set.
Depending on the amount of boost you want to run, the OEM crank may be able to handle it. However, if you want a forged crank. again, you will need to send 1 to someone and have them make one for you...that will most likely be at least another $1000.
As you can see, you are at about $2500 to $3000 for those internals. You still have the turbo, piping and some sort of tuning solution like a E-manage or AEM FIC. Not sure how well the FIC will work with the J30A1 sensors.
So, you are at around another $1000 to $2000 for those parts.
Add in labor for someone to do this for you, if you can't do it yourself
So for 4-5k IN PARTS ALONE, not including labor, you will have a J30A1 that MIGHT be around 300 hp at the crank on low boost -- I don't know Forced Induction as I prefer all-motor.
1. Your tranny may or may not hold that. The 4-speed autos suck. Only way to be safe on the tranny is build the auto or swap in a manual -- that is lots more cash there also
2. The cylinder heads are pure $hit, the ports are WAYYY to small to be of any benefit for a lot of boost. And no, porting them will not help...you can however, swap on a set of J32A1 or J35A3/A4 heads. Those will work on the J30A1 short block with no modification
or, just throw on the turbo with the stock engine -- but, I am not sure what tuning solution you could go with.
I think some guys run around 8 lbs? even with the Comptech Supercharger on the J30A1, guys ran up to 8lbs safely on the internals.
just letting you know that it might get expensive to do it right.
