What is your idle rpm? And don't turn the car off when it's in D, you should be putting it in P, then shutting it down.

Also check to see if your car has had the ignition recall performed.

Around 1100 rpm at first start up but after it fully heats up it goes down to about 600. I know not to shut down in D but im wondering why it does it, I thought modern cars had something to prevent that? How do I check for recalls?
Thanks for the help so far REDRYDER

Did it turn itself off in D or did you?

And this isn't exactly a "modern car"

The idle is normal

You can't start it in D anyway so it doesn't hurt anything even if it isn't suppose to do that.

alright, I wasn't sure if that was a sign of bigger problem but thanks. Also do you know anything about a AT car rolling back on a incline?

That's why I asked about your idle, 600 sounds about normal though. If it's a somewhat steep incline and the car rolls a little I think that's normal, you're still subject to the laws of physics. But if it's doing it on a very slight incline, then maybe something is amiss. Idle speed is a factor, you could try raising it. But there could possibly be other things that could be adjusted.

like redryder said, we are subject to the laws of physics. My car rolls back on steep inclines if im not holding the breaks. idling isnt strong enough to overcome gravity at a certain point. And yes our cars can be shut off in drive, but not turned back on. It has to be put back in park to start.
