Okay, how about this. Next time the lights go out on the unit, try changing the temp to all the way hot. If it doesn't change temp, I guarantee you need a new control head.

LOL....I live in Houston. It's going to be blowing hot air to start with for at least the next 3 months.

It is a good idea and I'll try it. The fan speed adjustment does work. I will also try to change the circulation modes. (vents vs footwell vs defrost)

Fan controls are separate from the vent, A/C and temp controls.

Even in Houston, I think you'd be able to tell when it's blowing outside air and when the coolant is heating the air. If you have to, do it at night.

So it finally failed again. As Finch predicted, the temp control did nothing to influence the temp control of the air that was blowing. Additoinally the buttons that change the air flow mode did not cause for the air to be redirected to different vents. Again, the blower controls worked. As I continued to fiddle with the temp control knob, the system suddenly started working normally again. This was the first time the problem corrected itself with be associated with a restart.

So , you guys think I need a new control board? Can I swap in a climate control unit for my "regular" AC control? Where is the best place to start looking?

Thanks again for helping debug this.
