you can run HIDs without the harness if you want to. I used to run just the 35w HID kit on my first 6th gen, with my second 6g i had the harness as well, just for peace of mind, really. they say the HID kits draw a bit more power on startup than the halogen bulb the OEM wiring was designed for, so that's why harnesses are recommended.

Yeah you can run without the relay harness. I had one until it kind of fell apart lol, been running without it forever now and it's been fine.
