What happened to my fuel mileage?

I would like to know how to fix this too. I get around 300 miles on a tank. Sometimes less.

Jeez that sounds pretty low, I usually average around 380-420 miles on a tank mostly city driving, occasional hwy driving. And I usually fill up about 15 gallons everytime.

you're averaging 26.7 MPG
he is averaging 25.7

marginal difference

I think you need to check your math :)

Assuming he is actually filling it all the way, 300/ 15.5 (running the tank down but not dry) = 19.4 mpg

There is something definitely wrong there.

In my case however, I took the interstate home this afternoon, steady driving until my exit and then its stop and go for a few miles, and guess what-- my fuel gauge needle barely moved from when i started!
So, at least with my car- city--back highway driving kills the fuel mileage, but interstate driving gets better than average fuel mileage. Interesting..

" looking at it today my tank is about half full, yet I have only gone 160 miles"

if half full is 10 gallons left (estimated)
then you have at MOST used 7 gallons of gas

160/7 = 22.9 MPG
this is worst case calculations, so you're probably doing a tiny bit better than that fuel economy wise

I typed in 180 instead of 160 earlier. my bad, but still. It's not awful
top off fluids, make sure your tires are filled to correct pressure, drive economically and you'll be back to your 28 MPG

not trying to get into any sort of thing here, but... how could half a tank = 10 gallons on a 17 gallon gas tank? In a perfect world half a tank on this tank would be 8.5 gallons, but maybe youre right, maybe there are 10 gallons left The only way I would know for sure is to go fill it back up right now. But as I said I came back home on the interstate and the fuel gauge maybe moved one mark, so I guess I'll chalk it up to back road accelerating/ decelerating + AC on. And try to drive friendlier :)

Anyway those last few posts were referring to the previous poster who said he was only getting 300 miles to a tank. 300/ 15 (not quite running the tank dry) = crap mpg

yes, that 300 to a tank is super low. but the OPs case could just be slightly watered down gas, low tire pressure, etc. A myriad of explanations.

I wasn't trying to start arguing either, apologies. I was just trying to get across that the OP was getting decent fuel economy, albeit not ideal

Fill it up!

How many gallons/miles?

The gauge usuall says 1/2 around 10 gallons LEFT!

What he means is that when your fuel gauge needle is reading at the half way mark there's really about 10 gallons or so in your tank still. You can't use the gauge that literal as it isn't completely on spot. When you're needle is pretty much at E you usually have around 2 gallons left. You should look at the tank as 15 gallon tank + 2 gallon reserve. So at the 1/2 way mark on your gauge you've used probably about half of the 15 gallons, if that makes sense.
