... code stays on after it has been cleaned?

I went to autozone today to buy a new exhaust gasket:D.
I got back in my car, and then it wouldn't start. It would turn over, but not start. My CEL would randomly go on and off... So i asked the guy to run the codes, only the EGR came up. He said something about the plugs being flooded due to the bad EGR flow... is this right/possible?
What else do i need to do to get rid of the CEL?

because it wont start easy! you should be able to measure the resitance at the valve w a multimeter to know it's position. you have the 4 or 6?

I have 4cyl, 5spd... but this problem only happens once in a while... and there is no sign that it is going to... The first time i was idling for a while, the second i had just gotten to my mom's house to fix the tire and the third today....

the best i can do is tell you it's # 13 here (i dont know what trim level you have so i just chucked in LX):

i have cleaned my v6s egr passages and intake manifold with carb cleaner but my valve operates fine so i left it alone. the manual says a malfunctioning egr is a replace item but maybe someone here has had luck cleaning it??? the way your MIL comes on immediately after it's cleared makes me think its sticking as opposed to just a flow problem which will set a different code. if you have a multimeter i can tell you how to check the position sensor on the valve before you replace it
