i'm going to get my windows tinted soon, and the tint laws are confusing (not like i'm going to follow them anyways). it says that it has to let in 70% of light, does this mean that the darkest you can get is 30% film? also, will cops pull you over only for your tint?

30% film only lets in 30% of the light. I don't think I've ever even seen 70% film. I can't imagine that it even does anything. 50% is almost nothing.

I don't think they are legally allowed to pull you over just for tint, but they'll find another reason to pull you over if they want to.

when i got mine tinted, not in ny though, i told them that i wanted the darkest possible. it was 35 on the fronts and they offered limo on the rest. if i were you i'd just go to a shop and ask what the legal limits are, they should know

yeah, NY is 30% all around besides front and rear windshield. "Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 6 inches of the windshield." so i guess no tint whatsoever for the front. the rear, it doesn't matter so no limit. but personally, i would get tint above 15% for the rear. i have 5% on my Camry and you can barely see anything at night so it's kinda dangerous when backing up. i plan to buy an aux light when backing up for my Camry.

FYI, legal tint for Oklahoma is 15%. that website says 25% but i checked and 15% is legal for our state. 15% is the perfect percentage tint for any car, IMO.

I got 35% fronts and 5% rears. I got the 5% long time ago before I wanted to tint my fronts. I got the 35% and there is a big difference. I figured 35% is good and cops wont notice. I was wrong I got pulled over one morning and they gave me a warning had my role my back window down since it was so dark. Then 5-7 months after never got bothered. I then got pulled over one afternoon and was warned about tint plus other things on the car. They let me off and said get it removed. The week after got pulled over again and the cop said your tint in front is too dark. He gave me a ticket and now I went to court pleaded guilty and sent me a ticket like 2 months later 25.00 fine and 35.00 surcharge. I wanted to go like 15% fronts too but maybe thats pushing it now. You should probably get 35% all around in ny like I am located in or get 15% if you want to chance it.

dang it sucks in Illinois...
Windshield - Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 6 inches of the windshield.
Front Side Windows - No tint can be applied legally to this window.
Back Side Windows - Any darkness can be used.
Rear Window - Any darkness can be used.
