Wiper help please

I searched everywhere for this problem but nothing seems to help.

My wipers have a lot of free travel (roughly 3 inches). I can grab one of them and move it around freely when I shouldn't be able to. This is causing problems when I use my wipers. Sometimes they knock on the lower part of the windshield plastic (cowl?).

I've tried tightening them etc.

Please help! Thanks.

It may be that the teeth/gears? that hold down the wiper arms are worn...

Take off each arm and look closely at where they connect.

Is this for both arms, or just one?

I know you said you ighted them, but you might wanna try again as well lol

Thanks. It's both arms. They move in unison.

I've been searching across the net and it looks like it might be the wiper linkage. Does anyone know anything about that?

Hey have u found the solution to this prob?? I've had this issue since i bought my car and never bothered to fix it but now its getting annoying.....my wiper starting smacking my window...YES my Drivers door window...i was like WTF is going on...its ridiculous
