That's a lot of hp gain. I'll keep my eyes on this thread!
P.S. That's an awesome Honda you got there!

Thank for the compliment! I've always loved this car. Drives nice, feels nice, looks nice. I've been doing my fair share of research on building this motor for a turbo. Hopefully everything turns out well. I can't take all the credit, most of what I want or learned is from AFACCORD'S build. I'm about to drop the funds on the Wiseco pistons and Crower rods. Most likely the biggest purchase.

Also to anyone reading, any feedback on a preference between Turbonetics, Precision or Garrett? Looking at a simple T3. 60 trim, .48 A/R Turbonetics for just over $600.

So everyone, a little update to the parts list on my F23 rebuild/turbo project. I've purchased the following parts so far. They include:

-OEM Honda Valve Cover Gasket
-OEM Honda V-tech Valve Cover
-Mishimoto Intercooler
-Walbro Fuel Pump
-Gates Racing Timing Belt
-Gates Racing Balance Shaft Belt
-Rywire OBD1 Conversion Harness
-Speed Factory Orange 4-bar MAP Sensor
-Bisimoto Intake Manifold Gasket
-OEM Honda Intake Manifold
-OEM Honda Intake Manifold Plenum Gasket
-AEM Fuel Rail
-Crower F23 Connecting Rods
-EGR Block Off Plate
-OEM Honda Crankshaft Pulley
-Marshall Fuel Pressure Gauge
-ARP H23 Head Studs
-Misc. Bolts and Throttle Stay Bracket
-OEM Honda Throttle Cable
-Wiseco K20 Pistons, 86.5mm

Meanwhile, in snowbanks up to our roofs New Hampshire, a few side jobs have kept me motivated waiting for spring. Purchase a used manifold on Ebay. Cleaned it, stripped it and painted it. Think it came out great.

Also redid my valve cover with wrinkle black.

I have some questions for those of you who have built/boosted this engine. Hopefully someone can help me out with them.

1. Balance Shaft deletion. Is this wise? Will it create intolerable vibrations and is it harmful to the motor. Again my goal is 300-350 hp.

2. On Majestic Honda's website, for the head gasket, they list two part numbers. One's a Nippon Leakless gasket and the other one is Ishino. Any idea which one I should get?

3. Anyone know of somewhere I can get a quality manifold? Treadstone Performance currently has a stainless steel log type for $210. I was thinking about that.

4. Head Work. I would like to at a minimum replace the valves, springs and retainers with new, higher end product. I've read the Ferrea F22 will fit. Can anyone confirm or deny this for me? Not thinking an updated cam, as there are very limited options for this engine. Bisi will grind one, but I'm still hesitant.

Any input would be great. Thanks!

IDK, just leaving this so I know you saw that IDK...

IDK, you really need someone more 'qualified' than me, lol

you can buy one, or make one:

I think I had $40 in this, hacked off OEM manifold head flange, stuck to 'weld-el' which are water fittings, & a homemade turbo flange

shouldn't need to mess with springs/retainers without aftermarket cams

As I wind down buying parts for this project, which has been months in the making, I'm now deciding on a clutch. I am currently looking at this one

http://www.advancedclutch.com/ha3-hdg6

I think it'll be well over my desired power goals and will still offer a low pedal feel. Trying to keep it as close to stock as I can. Looking for anyone's feedback! Thanks!

I personally love Exedy clutches. But I hear great things about these. Not sure bud. Hope someone else chimes in with some prior experience for you.

Deciding on clutch/flywheel set ups. Looking to go with either ACT's HA3-HDG6 - HD/Race Sprung 6 Pad or their HA3-XTSS - XT/Perf Street Sprung. They're rated for 355 and 385 lb/tq, respectively. Also looking to go with Fidanza's 8.5 lb flywheel or ACT's 12.6 lb XACT Streetlite. Looking for opinions and/or experience with each. Thanks.

So I spent today gapping my piston rings. Totally f'n up one, by gapping it too big, around 0.028. Ordered another set so I'm not worried about it considering this is my first build.

My question is this. I have a 86.5mm bore and I'm running Wiseco K20 pistons, part #K568M865. According to Wiseco's recommendations for their turbo builds, I should have 0.017 on the top ring and 0.018 on the 2nd ring. When I gapped them, I 'm seeing them a little loose. Not including the one I royally screwed up, I have the following numbers:

Cylinder #1: Top ring, 0.018~, 2nd ring-0.020~
Cylinder #2: Top ring, 0.019~, 2nd ring-0.021~
Cylinder #3: Top ring, 0.017~, 2nd ring-0.018~

All measurements were taken about 2 inches from the top of the cylinder, squared up with a piston. All were property clocked as well according to Wiseco's recommendations.

I left the oil rings alone. Now some have said that they should be a little on the loose side in forced induction. My build's goal is 350-400hp running around 15 lbs of boost.

Thoughts?
