Sounding like a compressor issue to me. But maybe someone more seasoned in the area will say otherwise.

Or possibly just the pulley for the compressor.

Wanted to say it, didn't want to be wrong. Hate giving false hope if its gonna end up being a whole new compressor in the end. Haha!

But it makes sense. Little strain when the A/C clutch is disengaged. A lot of strain when the clutch is engaged.

what's the a/c resistor?

really odd though, it sounded like too high of frequency (because it spins slower) for the typical pump problem. Could be a bearing, but whatev, sometimes I'm wrong. I have had two a/c probs on my own car, OEM & AAP ones, both were pump problems, but yeah, whatever.
