Hello folks, this is my first post!

I have a 1998 EX 4cyl. It's automatic was replaced at 75,000 or so. My car now has 132,000.

I have searched many threads that talk of the various woes of the automatic trannys (especially 6 cyl., but I have 2 other friends who have replaced them in fours also).

My question is, how many of you are having good luck with your autos at 100,000 miles, 150,000, or more, and what is your secret? I did do a search and didn't see a thread like this, but if I missed it, I apologize.

I have enjoyed lurking here and reading all of the wisdom in this forum.

...and what is your secret?

IMHO the secret is luck. There were design and quality control issues with the 6thGen transmissions. Some babied ones fail early and some go >150K abused miles with no issues.

Here's some examples from family/friends:

02/I4, 70K, good (mine), never abused and has had several ATF changes
02/I4, 150K, good
02/I4, failed at 39K, babied and had fluid changed by dealer at 30K
98/I4, >150K, good
99/I4, >150K, good, this one has been abused
02/V6, 80K, good
01/V6, failed at 100K, babied and had dealer ATF changes
01/V6, 81K, good

I'm at 120K+, and I have had no tranny issues. Fluid is due for a change though, but I don't push the car over it's limits(read - redline).

theres no such thing.

i thought i had a good tranny, never beat on it, changed fluids religiously. but at 128k it went out on me.

its all luck of the draw with these transmissions.

be like it is
98 I4 150k

slow into 1st...possibly "sticky" solenoid. fluid first replaced at 13x,000 (as far as i know).

easy on the gas, easy on the brakes...coast when you can and try not to shift often.

my old i4 6g's auto was just about dead at 112k. i changed the fluid for its first time at 95k, and rarely ever beat on it since i bought it at 69k.
