I've got a 1999, automatic, 2 door coupe, 4 cylinder EX model.
Here's whats happening:
I've noticed whenever I come to a near complete stop (basically a rolling stop) and press on the gas, the car will make a hard jolt/thud/thump and kick back quite hard, almost like metal slamming on metal before it kicks in and moves forward. Essentially, if I'm driving at 60km/h, I release the accelerator, press the brake, slow down to around 5-10km/h and then press the accelerator again, it slams and then moves forward. This does not happen every time, but its happened often enough for it to be noticeable.
This 'jolt' is a lot like having the car in neutral and revving up the engine and while doing this, dropping it into drive (I never do this of course, but I'm sure we've all experimented with it at least once before).
This doesn't happen often, but I've been able to replicate it now after getting a feel for when the gears change.
I've recently had the timing belt, pump and transmission flush done on it and its still doing this. My mechanic says it could be a sticky solenoid. A friend of mine says its basically the transmission giving out.
Any thoughts on what it could be?
