hey guys, new to the forums. although i've always lurked.

i finally got around to getting a h22a ordered, should be done sometime at the beginning of july.

I was wondering if anyones ever used a f22 tranny mated up to a h22? What kind of difference in performance will i be seeing. There isnt a tremendous difference in the gear ratios but the with the tranny there's quite a price jump. I'm considering options but i have a very very clean f22b tranny sitting in my garage and I was wondering if i'd be better to put the extra 500 the h22's tranny would run me towards say, a lighter flywheel.

any opinions guys? what kind of difference inperformance will i be seeing?

oh, and i did do a quick search, maybe i missed a thread.

H and F series tranny are interchangeable... not sure abt the gear ratios of the f22, bu the h22 has short gear ratios which is good for a NA setup

i guess this would make a comparison easier

H22A1 Transmission
1st - 3.307
2nd - 1.950
3rd - 1.360
4th- 1.071
5th- 0.870
Reverse - 3.00
Final Reduction Gear - 4.266

94-97 M/T Gear Ratio F22B1-2
1st - 3.307
2nd - 1.809
3rd - 1.230
4th - 0.933
5th - 0.757
Reverse - 3.00
Final Reduction Gear - 4.266

i honestly have little idea how to interpret how these numbers compare

Higher the number - shorter gearing

Lower the number - longer gearing

Just like looking at ratios for trucks/mustangs/camaros, etc.

4:10 gears are shorter geared than say 3:73's

well, its like this

h22 is a very short stroke, high reving engine and its tranny is meant for it with smaller gears

f22 engine has the same stroke as the f23 which is a long tourque stroke with a tranny that is meant for the long strokes with taller gears

now, you can mate a f22 trans and a h22 block, i have seen it before, but you wont be getting all the power the engine was meant to put out.

in most na cars, we go down in gear sizes, f23 block with a h23 trans or a h22 trans. turbo and other FI go up, h22 block with a h23 or f23 trans

i would'n't recommend it but a manual tranny swap is not hard at all. try it and see if you like it, if not swap it for an h22

Are the internals of the H and F transmissions interchangeable. For example swapping the 5th gear set from the F trans to the H trans. That way you get the acceleration of the shorter 1-4 gears and then a cruising 5th gear.

Yes the fifth gear set can be switched out from the P2A8 into a M2S4 and other H series transmissions with modifacation. Jason (afaccord) did this mod with his transmission.

It all depends on what you like.. if you like responsiveness at lower speeds without down shifting then stick with an H tranny.. if you like being able to cruise at higher speeds then get the F tranny, the differences between the two are very noticeable, but either one is good.
I've used both and I prefer the H tranny over the other. I can't drive as fast anymore though cus the higher revving can get pretty annoying sometimes.. I went from cruising on the highway at like 80 mph at like 3000rpm (can't remember exactly) to going 80mph at 4200rpm so now I drive around 70mph.
To give you a good idea of how the H tranny is on the highway, just think of an F tranny on fourth gear, it feels about the same.
