Hate to dig up an old thread, but as opposed to starting a new one, this is the route i chose.

Type: escort passport 8500 x50 RED
Price paid: 150 new ( I still can use my bestbuy discount for some reason)
Pros: incredible range, visually appealing, lots of different band options for programming.
Cons: Had i paid full price it would have been pricey, loud as SH**.

Honestly compared to the cobra 9330 i was using this thing has a much wider band width as well as distance range. Sitting side by side, the cobra is about a 1 mile delay on the escort. It's so good I might buy one for my wife at that price!:jealousbow:

Updating: The Whistler Pro 78SE that I bought has been holding up very well! Already have racked up confirmed long distance cop catches so that's a win in my book.

Escort is a huge improvement over Cobra, they are worthless. Don't run two radar detectors next to each other at the same time though they will interfere with each other. I'm looking to move to the Escort Redline now as it is the range king. Range is very important when the police are using instant on

I've got the Escort 8500 in Blue, just saved me this past 4th of July weekend. I heard it go off, let my foot off the gas, changed over to the slow lane and looked in the rear view mirror. I saw CHP coming down the on ramp and he ended up pulling over the car next to me.

I would def recommend one, all it takes is one time, and it's paid for itself.

Valentine is my opinion is the best.

Its very simple and basic. It doesn't have any extras.

Word of caution to CA people. A radar detector only works on the freeway. Most local police agencies and sheriffs are NOT equipped with radar equipment. So if they are pacing you then you have no way of telling. Only the CHP can afford the expensive radar and V1 will pick them up very easy if they are using the radar.
