i always thought corolla an camry is the flagship of toyota they advertise more corolla then camry when i worked at toyota for three years

Just because the corolla & camry are advertised more than the avalon, doesnt make them the flagship vehicle of the brand.
Just because nissan advertises the Altima more than teh Maxima doesnt make it the flagship.

IMO, the flagship vehicle is the top of the line vehicle that's offered by the brand.
FOr toyota their flagship vehicles are:
Avalon
Tundra
Sequoia

Although I really dont see the difference between the Land Cruiser and Sequoia

The Camry isn't the flagship because it's advertised more, it's advertised more because it's the flagship. The Camry is the car the brand stands on, and the car that got them where they are today...it's the car Toyota has chosen to drive sales the hardest on because they believe it gets them the best return on the dollar. More people on average are in the market for a Camry than an Avalon, and more Toyota customers are loyal to the Camry than the Avalon.

They have the commercials where they talk about how 90% or whatever it was Camrys are still on the road today and they show models dating back to the late 90's. The car is iconic because whenever someone says Toyota, you think Camry. Or most people do at least.

its generally the most expensive [insert product here] thats the flagship...thats what a "flagship" is, and thats the ornithology of the word--the flagship (an ocean-going vessel, boats n hoes! :lawl:) was the one that went forward first and "showed off" to the other navies.

look at the RL, honda's flagship sedan. first honda that had navigation built in? 1G RL in the early 00s. first honda with SH-AWD? 2G RL in 05. first honda with LED headlights? RLX.

flagship car = where features originate and trickle down into lesser lines. it matters not how many are sold. it would be like saying the pentax k-x is their flagship because they sell more while ignoring the 645D :lawl:

To sum it up...

Roy and RedRyder are correct.

Flagship = what's the most popular, sells the most, people most associate with the company.
