(*This was all done with rattle cans*) So i painted my center tail light bar which came out awesome so i decided to use the leftover silver to tighten up some scratches on the front bumper of my coupe..being the amatuer/beginner painter that I am
wellll...it started out great on the passenger side granted the silver wasnt quite a direct match(it was a silver metallic for toyota since Autozone didnt have the honda i had to match tops to my paint color) but i used the "blend" technique and it came out cool.(of course i sanded/primered/painted/clearcoat)..i was pump i cant lie so i decided to tackle a slightly bigger scratch on my driver side..this where it got fun
So i start to apply primer after sanding the scratches..2 coats primer comes out great(fast drying duplicolor/gave it about 10 mins between coats)..THEN i apply my silver and i get a big f*n run on my second coat decided(even tho i shouldnt have) to attempt to dab it with a microfiber..completely f*s up the finish
so i end up wiping what i could, letting it dry and reapplying primer and recoating it(at this point im running low on silver
so i get to applying more silver and get orange peel near the side of the grill where im working(i assume because i cleaned the area but not the WHOLE area
sooooo i dab/prime/etc again so now it looks alright again(primer wise) and i reapply silver and run out just at the end when i got only a bit to go..ok lets get to the bottom of this ..i spray my clear and i get some runs and fix it alot better than the dab approach and when i get done the driver side looks like f*n sh*t its obvious it was painted and i got overspray a little on my hood so some parts have a sorta matte feel and the grille looks two toned sorta because the silver isnt spot on
so here's where i stand..i'm going to just repaint the whole dang hood/front bumper..this time getting the actual silver that matches...didnt wanna do it but now i have to
any advice on better prep or was my prep ok but rather i was rushing(because it was getting late and i was outside and stoked to see my car finally being painted) and should take more time..any advice would be great i just want the coupe looking 100% not 90%..oh and btw i want to use rattle cans(dont have the money for a shop done job and more of a diyer anyway) even though people swear against them...how many cans you think to tackle hood/bumper or at least one at a time, where to get the honda silver?? just plain old help would be fine
