Looks awsome man. I wish Cali didn't have such BS laws, I have been wanting to learn to weld really bad, my friend works in a non car fab shop and is going to teach me. However, I can really make anything for my car lol, except like a short shifter or something.

Anyways, props. Coming from a DSM background, I love to see people just make their parts when their isn't anything off the shelf that fits the bill.

Which muffler do you have? I'm real excited to see what the mendrel and 1/2" tubing increase does for my lag and volume. I'll be building a downpipe out of the 3" as well with a machined v-band flange. Once it's all said-and-done, there should be some pretty legit gains on the j36.

I'm pretty sure I have this one, except the inlet is not centered, its on the side closer to the center of the car (skewed to the side).

what do you coat them with? just wondering

Looks awesome, i prefer the single exhaust setup on our cars, coupe or sedan...props for having the skill level to do this. x2, what do you coat the exhaust with?
It's an aluminized high-temp silicone-based coating that closely matches the sheen of an aluminized exhaust tubing. I think it's actually designed for header wrap, but works very well to prevent rust on welds

Thanks  Welding is a pretty useful skill to pick up, there's almost nothing you can't do on a car once you know how. It's not difficult either, one full weekend of welding with someone giving you pointers is really all you need. Then you can work on perfecting your beads for the stacked-dime effect. GL

Oh, I think they are the same series but mine has a center-in/center-out dual wall stainless tip and 3" inlet/4" outlet.

Anytime you have a bend/corner, flow is less efficient. Because it is a straight-through shot to the exit, the flow doesn't get caught-up in the muffler packing. It is also generally louder though, so that's the trade-off

Made some progress today. I fully re-built the up-pipe, rotated the turbo 180 degrees, lowered the turbo, moved it toward the cab and squared it up in the bay, then started on the new 3" downpipe. The setup is going together beautifully.

Don't mind the dirt and chaos in my engine bay, it's obviously extremely mid-project...

Damn. My thread is a ghost town, lol. Nobody cares about the first 6th gen j36 turbo with a full 3" turbo-back exhaust?!?

And there it is. Mmm for a fully garage-built 3" mendrel-bent turbo-back exhaust.

New downpipe, tacked together but complete:

Magnaflow metal catalyst spun cat with new 3" 3-bolt flanges tacked. The goal was to have a fully removable/replaceable cat that mated the exhaust and the downpipe:

Cat bolted to new downpipe:

Completed downpipe. Fully welded v-band flange and 3" 3-bolt flange as well as two O2 bungs for wideband and narrowband:

Completed exhaust. Note the third O2 sensor as well as the 3-piece design for easy removal/replace:

The one thing I didn't take any pics of is the one-off up-pipe I fabbed up alongside building the exhaust. I wish I had, because it has an integrated mount to the starter bolt for rigidity, as well as a custom wastegate flange that directs the wastegate exhaust straight down and out.
