For a crop the 17-55 2.8 IS is the way to go.

24 or 28mm on the wide end isn't really wide enough for large groups indoors (on a crop).

Sounds like using the new Canon 7D is the fad for wedding photography. Friend of mine has his own photography business, and he said everybody including him are using them to combine both video and photo for the weddings. He also uses steadicams, along with some other rigs. Pretty insane for a wedding, but i guess it gives him more options, along with more profit haha.

I am also wanting to get some new glass. I might be getting a Sigma 10-20, or try and find a Nikon 80-200 f2.8 or the 17-55 f2.8 for a good deal

what do you guys think of this canon p&s SD780 IS? my gf bought this for herself (after my advice). I must admit that the quality is impressive with macro mode and other things. I still have to go out and try it with long shutter speeds.

The 17-55/2.8 carries a huuuge price tag though... retails for $1400, $990 on amazon...

yeah i know...i just need a good fast lens in that area...i am getting tired of having to switch between my primes because the kit lens is not quick enough for me

If you're making money on your lenses then the 17-55 2.8 is well worth it. If not you can get just as good of shots for a lot less money. You just won't be as quick/versatile.

7D sounds amazing for a sports shooter.

Meh, a PnS is a PnS to me... they all take decent pictures, but nothin spectacular. I've been really happy with the Lumix FX550 I bought on impulse for 50% off. The new push with PnS cameras is wide angle lenses, which I must admit is awesome to have. The Lumix goes 25mm wide and is actually really useful.

That's where the 17-40/4L for $700 sounds like a better deal if you can spare the 15mm less focal range and slowness.

suggestions?? for a Nikon BTW I have the kit 18-55 and it is not horrible. I just need an improvement, and it looked like the next step up was the 17-55. bad thing about Nikon is they do not have any middle of the line lenses. Just like I wish they had an f4 zoom
