series should be in the 5-7 Ohm neighborhood...but...lets see if that helps or remains the same.

hey ryan so i called the image dynamics support line and they told me that the impedance i measured is appropriate and "should be working fine."

i have a slight feeling it might be my HU. any test i can run?

amplifier is at 1/2 knob on gains with no bass booster and LPF at 80hz.

i did set gains by ear, at volume 20 but maxing out gains didn't hit hard as i expected. but at volume 25-30 they come to life(using equalizer +10 low, +5 sub level, and +db on rear to lower the front speakers) but my front speakers become distorted and loud as hell (in a annoying way).

i'm not sure about the max volume. highest i went was 30 only for a minute to "bump the subs." I usually listen low but how would i go about checking?

yep stock speakers running off the HU until i can get new speakers.

what headunit is it? you'd test by unhooking the speakers, make sure the wires aren't touching anything, then cranking it up :lawl:

heres the thing about some headunits...they aren't linear when you turn the volume up. that's in regards to the volume and the preamp output. some people have done tests on stock pioneer head units and found that the difference between volume, say, 30 and 35 is insanely different, like you've hit a "shelf" inside the headunit. in an ideal world, 30 would be a little louder than 29, and 31 would be just a tad louder than 30.

using the headunit without a separate amp is difficult, since there is no adjustment available...youre at the mercy of the headunit. it would be less of a problem if you could tune for the 3/4 of max volume with an amp's gain control.

in other words...you have to live with it till you can amp the front speakers...
