Lightweight pullies are meant to save weight....it's to get your revs up faster.

Thats the intention yes, we dont know the OP's mods but like i said unless you have extensive work done saving a few lbs is worthless and not noticeable. Thinking about price to power ratio when buying parts saves people a lot of money.

No positives and no negatives. Its as affective as putting larger exhaust or CAI/SRI intake on our cars.

EDIT: IMO

I have a Unorthodox racing light weight underdrive pulley and haven't had any problems so far. I did feel a small increase in acceleration too.

and like i said..a light weight pulley is for higher revs for better acceleration and possibly better mpg. i highly doubt OP is worried about saving a couple pounds on a pulley so his overall weight of the car can decrease....

yes it's worth it and yes you'll notice it. it's not like an intake where you think you're fast because of the noise. light weight pulleys don't add HP but can free up HP. there's a difference like lightweight wheels, you obviously gain no hp from it but you will feel the difference on acceleration plus less work for the engine to move the car from a stand still and that will also help your MPG as much as acceleration.

one thing you must remember is if it's your crank pulley make sure it's BALANCED...if it's not the vibrations will cause damage to your engine.
if it's the underdrive pulley don't change it if you have a sound system.

someone chime in if im wrong.

You're right about the underdrive pulley, because doesn't it not power the alternator as much as it should? or something like that? so if you have anything sucking a lot of power from the battery it isn't good to put one of those on. correct me if i'm wrong also.

a lot of you guys are saying these things without having actual experience, it amuses me :lawl:

if your car has myriad other problems, it's probably not a great idea to add things like this. Those horror stories are interesting, but often told by redneck idiots who come and noob out in a thread about what happened and then more knowledgeable people ask them specifics and they can't make any sense with their answers.

so in other words, know what you're doing and have your car in order before installing things like this or you're just going to come crying back.

I did too, it really gets the response from the gas pedal to those revs in sync faster.

As I stated in my last post it will lack harmonic balance to the crack, if you're seriously interested, I suggest look for one that has the rubber bushing to maintain harmonic balance to the crank that way you can avoid potential issues

You guys do know that the J series are Internally balanced. Adding a lightweight pully does not affect the harmonics on the J series.

A lightweight/underdrive pulley will not harm the engine. I ran the U/R lightweight/underdrive pulley on my J30A1 for 5 years. Not 1 problem.

The problems people hear about lightweight pullies affecting the engine, are most likely on the higher revving 4 banger Honda engines.

Internally balanced engines, all of them, don't really 'neeeeed' a dampener. Just keeps the vibes. Down. Well, they kind of néed one unless you know for sure that it is completely perfectly balanced internally. Basically it would only affect the previously posted 4clys. Like when you have to get your engine balanced before you eliminate the balance shafts or it shakes like crazy, which can cause a number of things as far as damage goes from the harmonics of the engine being thrown all out of whack. Anyways, what do I know. This is only an Internet forum, and every engine is different. All I can say OP, put it on, drive it around for a little bit, if it seems okay, there you go.

Life's a risk. Lol
