I haven't decided whether to keep the 18-55 kit yet now that I have the 35mm. The extra little bit of zoom I know I wouldn't miss, but being able to go wider I might

thanks for the feedback guys, although I'm not sure it's fair to be comparing it against lenses that cost 5x as much or more lol. I'm not really looking to spend more than $300 at most on another lens. taking that into consideration, is there a better alternative than the 55-200mm or not?

so I'm getting some money after xmas for a gift that's being returned... question is whether to spend it on a 55-200mm lens, or a 8.5 turn motor + speed control for the rally truck haha

I agree that the OP is a bit over-the-top. but I think it's wise to send your money to people who share your interests if it's feasible to do so (not commenting on gas, just in general)

yeah I must say I'm loving the lens so far, especially with the sb400 I got to go with it. I really don't see using the kit lens much in the future, although I'd still like to add a 55-200mm eventually as an outdoor walkaround. For indoors, I think the 35mm will stay on most of the time...

    standing the test of time.

That may be, but I've ridden in cars with people who were all gung-ho about spring rates... and their cars were not only uncomfortable to ride in, but they couldn't even take your every day mediocre on-ramp without compromising traction lol. Something like that may be superior on a smooth...

    standing the test of time.

meh I bought my SS's for $850 shipped in 2004. I have no doubt that there are better products out there, but for a DD the only complaint I think anyone could reasonably have about SS's are that they don't go as low as others. Granted someone else could have had a bad experience with them, but...

your car is a perfect example of why people should always change their headlights. stock headlights would ruin your car, instead of complimenting it perfectly.

    standing the test of time.

i'm just realistic. you know the whole pros & cons thing? a lower price is an advantage, whether it offsets the disadvantages is up to each individual person and their budget. that doesn't make it the best product out there, but that doesn't make it an illegitimate product either. guess you...

I'm not positive, and it was many many years ago that I spoke with the tech, but I believe it's replacing the valves, repressurizing the body and the cost was somewhere around $75/shock + shipping. The prices could easily have changed since then, that was 2003 or something. I'd email Tein.

Can't speak about reliability for any brand I haven't owned personally. I put about 80k miles on Tein SS with no issues though. A Tein USA tech at SEMA had once told me to expect 70-100k miles before needing a rebuild.
