my check engine light came on and i had my brother check it for me (he goes to wyotech and has access) its p1486, which is for the cooling system i think...i was told by a shop that it is prolly the thermastat...how much does this usually run in terms of fixing it....and i cant even get smogged next week like im supposed to cuz the damn light is on....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

change it yourself, it's not too hard. And a new thermostat is usually only a few bucks. While your at it, pick up a new PCV valve and change it too (unless you've done it recently)

Do u have a Haynes manual? If not, go buy one from Autozone or one of those places, it'll give you step by step instructions on how to change it.

really the guy at the shop gave me an estimate of a few hundred dollars.....i usually have one of my brothers do all my matinence stuff for me, im to lazy but one is over sea's and one full time student at wyo tech and he's a bastard and only wants to werk on his civic, how my much "experience" do i need to do this, on a scale of 1-10 i am about a 5.5

5.5 should be plenty. Just make sure to go buy a Haynes manual.

I'm about to stick an external transmission cooler on my Accord and while i could probably figure it out myself i'm just gonna use the Haynes manual to be 100%. :)

Yep... That's cooling system malfunction. It's not in my Haynes, but it is in the CEL codes listed in the forum: Clicky
