Re: consuming too Much oil !!!

Must be a climate thing, because mine says 5W-30 haha.

Probably, standard should be 5w30 though. 5w20 would work for a colder climate, but anything south of, say, Canada, and you'll want to use 5w30 for the higher viscosity during summer.

Its burning correct? no signs of leakage or anything? that's a little bizarre. Did you ever put the high mileage stuff in then switch back to either conventional or regular synth? I've heard horror stores where people have switched back to a cheaper alternative w/o the additive, seals shrunk up, and they either started hemorrhaging oil or burning more and more. The reason for the high mileage additive is the seals over time will start to crack and warp/shrink, HM stuff will make them swell up, its a temporary fix for the worst cases though, you may need new seals if it persists, give it a bit of time, if you're still burning just as much by the next change, well, you may be at a crossroads...

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Check the block for any leaks if none are shown its possibly internal issue causing the oil consumption. I know for Toyota well the early Toyota the corolla consume a lot oil due to the piston rings going bad.

Not sure who but the higher the grade the thinner the oil viscosity and vice verse

Re: consuming too Much oil !!!

Look over the entire block at all seals. Especially the main bearings. You'd be surprised where oil can go.

Just remembered when I was changing my oil last week, I thought naturally while I have it on the lift I should look it all over. Sure enough the whole bottom end had a slight coating of oil. Coming from the rear bearing seal the best I could tell. And it wasn't the smallest amount all together. Don't know if its a weak point or what but despite this there was never any oil spots on my driveway. So I don't know where it went. I ended up changing it early, at 4500 instead of 6000 because it was getting kinda low. Not dangerous just lower than it ought to be at that mileage since the last change... Anyways I don't know where that oil went but I never noticed it.

I had the same kinda issue ended up being the valve cover gasket was leaking outta the back corner. Check around your engine bay look for any oily areas. Also try cleaning the engine bay one day so everything is clean dry for any debris, then check a day or two later will make finding leaks a breeze. Plus ive heard v-tec will burn oil so redline shifting may do it little by little

Re: consuming too Much oil !!!

Did you already do a compression test? Leak down test? The most common culprits for oil consumption are bad piston rings, bad valve seals, and the infamous main rear seal. Next time you go in for an oil change I recommend bumping it up to 5w30 and go from there. Please do not get fully synthetic oil it's not for high mileage vehicles. Heck IMO I wouldn't recommend using it on high compression and boosted cars either. Also degreasing your engine wouldn't be a bad idea either, it makes it easier to spot freshly leaked oil.
